Best 18 Car Accessories to Have in Your Car at All Times (For Any Emergency)

My wife purchases all sorts of accessories and decorations for our home. I don’t have much to say on the matter here. However, I once thought, why don’t I do the same for my car?

After all, I drive pretty often and find it an amusing idea to improve the comfort of my journeys. I wanted to do it differently, though. Instead of searching only for cool car gadgets, I also decided to find the most useful car gadgets that would also provide me with safety in an emergency situation.

I consider myself a patient driver – but once in a way, I may unintentionally speed up. I also find long journeys quite tiring. Therefore, next time I go on a trip with my family, I want to be well-prepared for the road.

Hence is my review of the must-have car gadgets. I hope you find something useful for yourself. Enjoy!

Short Overview of My Top Car Gadgets

If you are about to set off on a journey, here is a quick overview of the best car gadgets I found and tested on the internet. I’ve added a short description of each so you can decide which gadget is a lifesaver for you.

1. FIXD™ Professional Bluetooth OBD2 Scan Tool

fixd

In my opinion, any driver needs a reliable OBD2 scanner at hand. Such a device can help you quickly analyze what might be wrong with your car whenever you feel something is odd or a check-engine light pops up on your dashboard.

Such a device can prove extremely useful, especially when driving far from home without your long-time mechanic nearby, spearing time on finding the nearest mechanic store and saving money on visiting it.

And if you’re looking for the best and most reliable OBD2 scanner that won’t put a dent in your budget, there’s no better choice than the FIXD™ OBD2 Bluetooth scanning tool.

The device can identify over 7,000 vehicle issues, providing detailed information about each in real time via a handy mobile app.

My Opinion After Using the FIXD™ Scanner

I have been using FIXD™ for several years now, and it’s yet to disappoint. Whenever a check-engine light pops up on my dashboard, I immediately connect this bad boy to my car. And guess what. It always provides me with the most accurate data. And fast, too, with FIXD™ taking less than 60 seconds to connect to the car once plugged in.

I’ve lost count of how many times FIXD™ has saved me from wasting money on unnecessary vehicle repairs. And that’s merely the start of its advantages.

FIXD™ also allows you to run diagnostics, including ABS and airbag tests. Moreover, once connected, it downloads your car’s entire history and records all issues. It also has a feature to check when your next vehicle maintenance visit is due (a feature that helped me countless times as I’m terrible with dates).

Key Highlights

  • Can alert you on over 7,000 car issues
  • Comes with a user-friendly app
  • Allows you to connect multiple vehicles to the device
  • Maintenance timeline and mileage detection features
  • Compatible with any car manufactured in 1996 forward

What I Liked

  • Fast and detailed OBD2 scanner: Since the purchase, FIXD™ has been spot on regarding its scans, always providing me with accurate and detailed information about any issue I’ve faced.
  • Easy to use: If you worry an OBD2 scanner is overly technical, don’t be. FIXD™ is extremely easy to use and has a user-friendly app that displays detailed information about performed scans and diagnostics.
  • Affordable: Compared to many OBD2 scanners on the market, I still find it amusing how affordable FIXD™ is, given its advanced features.

What I Didn’t Like

Often out of stock: While I already have my FIXD™ OBD2 scanner, I’ve heard several voices it’s often out of stock, so be mindful of that when buying it.

2. Stay Safe 5-in-1

Stay Safe 5-in-1

Let me start by saying that every car must have a fire extinguisher. I want to believe nobody neglects safety rules with this one. The question now is, why would I need two of them?

My bulky fire extinguisher sits in the trunk under a pile of picnic chairs and car tools. I’m afraid that in an emergency situation, I will fail to pull it out in time. So, my goal was to search for a fire extinguisher that is compact yet powerful – the Stay Safe 5-in-1

What I liked the most about Stay Safe 5-in-1 is that it doesn’t take up any space at all. Instead of the trunk, I keep it close to myself. As a matter of fact, I ordered three pieces: one for my car, one for the kitchen, and one for my test.

Here’s how I tested it:

My Opinion After Using Stay Safe 5-in-1

Since putting my car on fire wasn’t an option, I tested the extinguisher in my yard. I brought the grill and started a grease fire.

Note: Please do not repeat it yourself.

Just in case, I had my regular fire extinguisher ready to back me up. Luckily, I didn’t need it. The Stay Safe 5-in-1 was effortless to use, and I could extinguish the fire at a distance.

I found it a great advantage if you are in a more serious situation where approaching the burning object is a potential threat to your life.

Since it was my first time using the aerosol fire extinguisher, my aim wasn’t ideal, and I think I wasted a quarter of the bottle before actually targeting my grill.

Key Highlights

  • Extinguishes fires in a matter of seconds
  • Eliminates fire on electrical devices, textiles, cooking oil, petrol, and paper
  • Compact and lightweight
  • Non-toxic

What I Liked

  • The can is so compact: I could store it anywhere: in the glove box, drawer, and even my backpack.
  • The extinguisher is lightweight and practical: As I mentioned before, you can eliminate 5 types of fire in seconds
  • Quick and powerful: With one press, the spray forces a huge amount of chemicals out and efficiently eliminates the danger.

What I Didn’t Like

Price: I think nobody should save up when it comes to safety, but this fire extinguisher is a bit overpriced. I would recommend purchasing a few bottles since you are likely to use the bottle in case of an emergency.

3. Bondic Glue

Bondic Glue

My next item is a unique discovery. As an old-fashioned guy, I usually purchase regular glue, but this one is a game-changer for me. Hopefully, for you too.

In theory, Bondic is an adhesive that can rebuild shape and size (unlike glues that stick two things together). All you need to do is to apply some liquid glue and turn on the UV light to harden the glue in the shape you want.

I have tested it on a couple of broken things I had lying in my garage. Here is how it went:

My Opinion After Using Bondic Safe

After my testing, I realized that Bondic is not like glue at all. It’s a liquid plastic welder that I used where the glue wouldn’t work. It is also waterproof and heat resistant.

So, once I laid my hand on the Bondic kid, I immediately started repairing everything around my house. The first thing was the charger cable, it was in a bad state, and I wanted to order a new one. Luckily, Bondic did a great job and saved me some bucks.

I glued tiny round magnets to the fridge door where we usually stick keys. My child broke the handle from an old vase that my wife didn’t want to throw away. Since I am a beginner, I managed to attach the vase handle, and it seems to be glued well (although I did quite a messy job).

I think it is worth pointing out again that Bondic is not glue but rather a liquid plastic that can be shaped before hardening. And the opportunity of molding it is what sets Bondic apart.

Key Highlights

  • Versatile
  • Non-toxic
  • Hardens when exposed to UV light
  • Should be used on a clean surface
  • Comes in a kit

What I Liked

  • Easy to learn: I have never used a hot glue gun, so Bondic was something new to me. Although the first few tries were looking messy, I managed to get a hold of it after a few tries.
  • Versatile: Bondic glue is pretty universal, and you can apply it on wood, glass, steel, leather, and wiring.
  • Easy to shape: When I was fixing cables, I could adjust the shape as I wanted it to see on the cables. Although the first time wasn’t super successful, the liquid plastic stays exactly as you put it on any object up until you turn on the UV light.

What I Didn’t Like

Shouldn’t be used outside on a sunny day: The liquid plastic hardens when you direct UV light on it. The same effect can be noticed when working with Bondic glue.

4. Kelvin 17 Multi Tool

Kelvin 17 Multi Tool

If you’re like me, you’ve probably gone through a few multi-tools in your time and know that finding one that’s actually worth the investment can be a real challenge. I’ve tried so many that were poor quality and broke after a few uses, or they came with many tools I’ll never use. But I have to say; the Kelvin 17 multi-tool has been a refreshing change.

My Opinion After Using Kelvin 17 Multi Tool

The snap-action screwdriver was a standout feature for me – it opens at the push of a button and folds back inside when closed. Rather than heading to my trunk and digging out my screwdriver, I can just grab the Kelvin and get to work.

I began putting it to use by using the screwdriver to change the battery in my car’s remote keyless entry fob. The Phillips screwdriver made it a simple job to remove the cover and replace the battery. I then went to work tightening up any loose screws I found in my car’s interior and exterior. It worked admirably and, due to the ergonomic grip, didn’t tire my hand too much.

I also used the Kelvin to remove my license plate to give it a clean behind. Who cleans the back of their license plate, you might be asking? Well, I can’t be the only one who spends time looking for dirt behind their license plate, can I?

I’ve also used it for several other repairs, and I have to say I’m more than impressed with the tool.

Key Highlights

  • Push button, snap action screwdriver that locks at 90 degrees for additional torque
  • 13 hardened Alloy bits including Torx and Allen Key bits
  • Carbon Steel Hammer
  • liquid level
  • LED flashlight
  • 3ft (1m) measuring tape

What I Liked

  • Versatile: Useful for minor car maintenance but also around the home for small DIY tasks or even for camping and RV trips.
  • Compact: Fits into most glove compartments or door pockets, so you always have it handy in an emergency.
  • Good Selection of tools: A useful selection of high-quality tools that won’t frustrate you like some cheaper alternatives.
  • Ergonomic grip: Fits in your hand nicely, reducing arm and hand fatigue if you use it for long periods.

What I Didn’t Like

Missing a pair of pliers: What would have made this the perfect multi-tool for me would have been a pair of pliers added to the tool selection. Maybe I can interest the manufacturers in a Kelvin 18?

5. XY FindIt

xy findlt

The XY FindIt is a small Bluetooth-enabled device that attaches to anything you want to keep tabs on and helps you locate it using your smartphone. I’ve been using it for a while now and can honestly say it’s an ingenious piece of tech.

For me, it was all about the car keys. I’m pretty good with them, as a matter of fact, and put them in the same place when I get home every time. It’s when my wife has used the car that I’ll find them somewhere else. She’ll totally deny this, of course! With the XY FindIt attached, I just open up the app on my phone, and voila, I’ll see exactly where they are.

My Opinion After Using the XY FindIt

Setting up the XY FindIt was effortless; all I needed to do was download and open the mobile app, create an account, then connect the device to my phone. The app provided me with a smooth set-up process that guided me through each installation step, allowing me to complete everything in just minutes.

It was then time to have some fun and play hide and seek with some of the items I regularly carry. Everything worked exactly as promised; I could locate my car keys from across the room, even when they were hidden under the sofa.

Other items, such as wallets, bags, and even my cat, were easy enough to find. There are three ways to locate an item: one is with a sound alert, another is the XY FindIt’s flashing LED light, and lastly, you can use your smartphone to see where it is on the map.

Key Highlights

  • Attaches to anything
  • Find lost items using your smartphone
  • Range of alerts and sound options
  • Easy to use mobile app

What I Liked

  • Versatile: It attaches to almost anything, so whatever item you regularly misplace, it can help you.
  • Accurate: It works as advertised: I could find my items every single time.
  • Battery life: The battery in the XY FindIt lasts for weeks at a time, so you won’t have to worry about recharging it all the time.
  • Loud alarm: Once you’ve located your item with the app, you can activate the alarm to help you find it quicker.

What I Didn’t Like

Limited GPS: XY FindIt relies on Bluetooth technology, so it can’t find items that are further away than 300 feet. However, it does have a Crowd GPS feature which helps you locate your missing item if someone else has the app and they are nearby.

6. React 7-In-1 Vehicle Emergency Multi-Tool

React 7-In-1 Vehicle Emergency Multi-Tool

I’d already purchased and tested the Ztylus Vehicle Escape Tool before I discovered the React 7-in-1 Vehicle Emergency Multi-Tool and couldn’t resist trying out another competing tool.

Do you need both? Probably not. However, though similar in concept, React’s design is different, and its functions are expanded.

This tool has a seatbelt cutter, window breaker, and USB car charger just like Ztylus’, but it also includes a Power Bank, flashlight, red flashing light strobe, and a loud alarm.

Really it boils down to whether those extra features and affordability are important to you. The React, with its additional functionality, is a bit steeper in price.

Having both devices available, I keep one in the glove box and one in the center console.

My Opinion After Using the React 7-in-1

I tested the seatbelt cutter and window breaker much as I did with the Ztylus tool. I’d say the cutter performed just as well, while the window breaker wasn’t quite as efficient, but it still got the job done.

The USB car charger was a great addition to the tool and came in handy when my phone battery was getting low. I also tested the flashlight, red flashing light strobe, and loud alarm – all worked as advertised. Though they obviously weren’t tested in a real-life scenario (thankfully), I’d feel confident that it could get me out of a bind.

Lastly, I tested the power bank and found it to be an additional great feature; in my tests, it gave my phone about 60 percent extra battery life, which is not great, but it would be enough to get me through an emergency.

Key Highlights

  • Steel tip window breaker
  • Quick charging USB car charger
  • High capacity 2200mAh power bank
  • Bright 140 lumen LED flashlight
  • Strobe light with SOS beacon
  • Loud safety siren with a long-range

What I Liked

  • Functionality: No matter what you need in an emergency, the React 7-in-1 Vehicle Emergency Multi-Tool is sure to have you covered.
  • Power Bank: The power bank is a great feature that could get you through a rough patch if your phone battery dies.
  • Sturdy & Compact Design: The device is well made and easy to keep to hand.
  • All-in-one Design: No need to have multiple separate devices to do the same job.

What I Didn’t Like

Power Bank’s Performance: Though it did provide some extra juice for my phone, the battery capacity isn’t great. As an emergency power source, it’s OK though.

7. Key Smart

Key Smart

If you are like me, it means you have lots of keys: for your house, car, garage, safe, etc. I have a friend who carries 10 keys daily (well, that’s for work; he doesn’t have multiple cars and houses). So, I decided there wasn’t a better person to test the Key Smart organizer than him.

I ordered two pieces – one for a friend and the other one for me – and started the experiments. My theory was that the key ring is more fun and easier to carry around. Here are the two independent reviews:

My (Friend’s) Opinion After Using Key Smart

Compared to my friend, I don’t have that many keys. However, it doesn’t mean I found the tool useless. In my opinion, it’s a great organizer. The only disadvantage that I found was the tool is ideal only for flat keys.

As for my friend, after a week, he didn’t want to return the key organizer, so I was forced to part with mine. Because of the nature of his job, he usually carries lots of keys with him. Key Smart made it much easier for him to carry all the keys. He told me he had work keys on one side and home/car keys on the other. He also added that the keys took up significantly less space in his pocket and that he no longer needed to spend minutes searching for a key.

The only disadvantage he noticed was that assembling keys was quite a chore.

Key Highlights

  • Holds up to 14 keys
  • Assembly requires no tools
  • Comes with a loop piece attachment for car keys

What I Liked

  • Compact: Key Smart turns your bulky keychain into a Swiss knife-sized key storage.
  • Lightweight: The tool by itself is very light, but the extra keys will add some weight to it.

What I Didn’t Like

Suitable only for flat keys: Although the key organizer will sort out your keychain mess, it may not be an ideal tool for round keys.

8. Baseus Car Vacuum Cleaner

Baseus Car Vacuum Cleaner

I think every car owner appreciates the cleanliness in the car, but alas, finding time to clean your vehicle is a mission impossible.

To save time and money, I usually keep a handheld vacuum cleaner at home and bring it to the garage when my car looks filthy inside. It takes me less than 15 minutes to get rid of all the crumbs and accumulated dust. I also take it with me on long car trips (I found it exceptionally useful when traveling with my kids).

I have been using a Baseus car vacuum cleaner for quite some time already, and it has never let me down.

My Opinion After Using Baseus Car Vacuum Cleaner

I like Baseus car vacuum cleaner because it is very lightweight and compact. I can clean even the far corners of my car with no problem.

The vacuum cleaner’s runtime is about 25 minutes, which should be enough even if you have an enormous car. I also often use it around the house – it’s quite a convenient and versatile device.

I’ve noticed that the car vacuum does a great job when it comes to dog shedding; it picks up everything from the car seats.

Key Highlights

  • Lightweight and compact
  • Cordless and portable
  • Runtime of about 25 minutes
  • Fully charges in 3 hours
  • Type-C charging port

What I Liked

  • Quick and easy to use: Whenever there are minor things to clean up around the car, I always equip Baseus vacuum cleaner and vacuum for about 5 minutes.
  • Compact and lightweight: Baseus vacuum cleaner is one of those car gadgets that you can keep in your car. It’s small and doesn’t take up much space. Just don’t forget to keep it charged.

What I Didn’t Like

Suction power could be better: I understand that it is not wise to ask Baseus for suction power equal to a regular-sized vacuum cleaner. If that were possible, the product would be unbeatable.

9. Norshire Tire Inflator

Norshire tire inflator

Quite a popular car gadget I have come across on the internet is a Norshire tire inflator. The product is quite compact, and the shape seems identical to the Baseus vacuum cleaner, so it’s a good sign – both can fit my car without taking up too much space.

The product comes with a car charger and an air pump. You connect the two parts, set the settings, and start inflating car tires – as easy as it is! I find it useful and handy since I don’t have to drive to the nearest gas station just to check the tire pressure.

My Opinion After Using Norshire Tire Inflator

To use the tire inflator, it needs to be 75% charged. It is better to keep it fully charged or keep it connected to your car as you use it – that’s how I did it.

The device is nicely built, and I inflated two tires, but not more. In an emergency, I think it’s an excellent inflator to keep in the car. It did overheat a bit, so you should pay attention to the temperature.

Key Highlights

  • Digital control system
  • Powerful inflation capacity
  • Compact and portable
  • Versatile

What I Liked

  • It is versatile: I got the tire inflator from Norshire because it can inflate toys, bike, and car tires.
  • Portable: The tire inflator is very portable and can fit into your backpack and trunk.

What I Didn’t Like

The device was overheating: After using it continuously, the device started to heat up.

10. Ztylus Vehicle Escape Tool

Ztylus Vehicle Escape Tool

There are lots of emergency essentials, but the most effective in an accident seems to be the Ztylus vehicle escape tool. It cuts through the seatbelt, breaks the window, and saves you from any dire car situation.

My Opinion After Using Ztylus Vehicle Escape Tool

Ztylus device is tiny, so I can keep it within my hand’s reach. Actually, this is exactly how the manufacturer wants you to keep it. Ztylus is an escape tool when you need it and a regular USB charge when you aren’t in danger.

I kept it plugged in at all times and was charging my phone, so as a USB charge, it works relatively decent.

I tried cutting through the thick fabric with a blade found up the top of the device, which it did effortlessly. Next on my list was to test how well the device tip could break the window. I was afraid whilst I would start pressing the tip against the class, I might cut my finger with the blade. Luckily, the design prevents any user from getting their finger in it.

As a result, the Ztylus did break the glass. The button vibrates and releases a sharp object, so I was pretty impressed. Apparently, once you press the Ztylus against the glass, the loaded spring pops out of the tips and shatters the glass.

When it comes to efficacy, Ztylus does get the job done. When I tested it on a random glass, it never failed. It could be a lifesaver for many, especially during an emergency with no room for doubt and hesitation.

Key Highlights

  • Razor to cut seat belt
  • Sprong-loaded glass breaker
  • Quick charger with 2 USB ports

What I Liked

  • Can be kept at my hand’s reach: Throughout the test, I kept Ztylus plugged into the cigarette lighter. And as you keep it there, you also convert the safety device to a USB charge. Very convenient!
  • Super small: You wouldn’t believe how small the item is, but it fits nicely in my hand. The spring-loaded hammer is extremely powerful and shouldn’t be used on anything other than glass.
  • Can be a USB changer: Not only did I keep it close to me, but I also used it as a charge when plugged into the aux socket.

What I Didn’t Like

Some people reported charging issues: I personally had no problem with USB charging. Ztylus supports two ports, and both worked fine for me, although there are too many issues reported for me to keep it out of the review.

11. AstroAI 2 Digital Tire Pressure Gauge

AstroAI tire pressure gauge

The next item on my list is the AstroAI 2 digital tire pressure gauge – one of the gadgets for cars everybody should own.

Before a long journey, I tend to check my car for any malfunctions, including the tires. I need to make sure they are well-inflated because my journey will be smoother, more enjoyable, and, most importantly, safe.

My Opinion After Using AstroAI 2 Digital Tire Pressure Gauge

AstroAI allowed me to check the tire pressure with just one press of a button. It has four settings, and you effortlessly jump between any of them if you want to. I usually stick to one of the scales.

To check the accuracy, I went to the nearest gas station and compared the readings from another gauge. AstroAI didn’t disappoint me here, either, providing me with practically the exact same results.

Key Highlights

  • Four different scales
  • Illuminated nozzle
  • Battery included
  • Accurate readings

What I Liked

  • Integrated nozzle to see better at night: Sometimes it’s really hard to see the numbers on a digital screen of some devices. But I can’t say the same about AstroAI. It has integrated light, making it easier to see the tire and digits.
  • Accurate: I didn’t see any differences when comparing with other gauges. So, I am confident this device shows an accurate reading.

What I Didn’t Like

A bit tight for a motorcycle: The gauge can be used on a bike, car, truck, or motorcycle. Unfortunately, the device can be a bit tight for a two-wheel motor vehicle.

12. Escape Buddy Traction Mat

Maxsa Escape Buddy Traction Mat

Nobody can predict when your car will get stuck. Once, it happened to me when I expected it the least. I was leaving my fishing spot a few hours after the rain, hoping some mud would dry when I started driving. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen, and I had no one around to help. Sadly, I didn’t have traction mats to save myself and test the product.

This time I am looking forward to getting myself in this kind of situation with Maxsa mats. Let’s see what gets out of it.

My Opinion After Using Escape Buddy Traction Mat

According to the instruction, whenever your car can’t move forward, you need to:

  1. Place the mats under the front wheels
  2. Slowly press the accelerator pedal and drive over the mats
  3. And voila – you have just unstuck your car

To test the product, I went to a few places: my fishing spot (although it wasn’t as muddy as before) and to a sandy area (not a snowy season at the moment).

In both situations, Maxsa mats worked excellently. And the best part is that I didn’t need to call for help. I was entirely self-reliant, and this has persuaded me to keep the product and add it to my list.

Key Highlights

  • Efficient in as low as -15°C (5°F) and up to 90°C (195°F)
  • Durable
  • UV and corrosion resistant
  • Ideal for snow, sand, mud, and ice

What I Liked

  • Versatile: I appreciate the fact that the mats can be used in snow, mud, ice, and other conditions.
  • Durable: Maxsa used the most reliable materials to manufacture these mats. Any car can drive on them without breaking.

What I Didn’t Like

Plastic may melt if you spin the wheels too much: Knowing how to use the product correctly is important. I have read the opinions saying that plastic melts. However, it only happens when a driver accelerates too fast. As per instructions, you should only accelerate gently.

13. BACtrack S80 Breathalyzer

BACtrack S80 Breathalyzer

Although I never drink and drive, I live by the rule that it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Therefore, I decided to equip myself with a breathalyzer. However, while I was well aware I might not need it as often, I still wanted to get a good quality product. That’s when I found BACtrack S80.

My Opinion After Using the BACtrack Breathalyzer

As mentioned, I’m a massive opponent of driving a car after drinking alcohol, even in the states that allow it (within a specific limit, of course). However, I still find the device extremely useful, especially after spending a night at a party to ensure I can drive.

To test the device, I drank two small cans of beer. I then breathed into the device immediately after I was finished, an hour later, and after two hours. The breathalyzer was super quick to provide me with the results, which were spot on, according to my research!

That might have something to do with the technology BACtrack uses, which is the exact same technology used in hospitals and by the police. The device is also extremely straightforward to use. Simply turn it on, wait for it to calibrate, and breathe into the tube.

Key Highlights

  • Fast and accurate results
  • Simple, one-touch operation
  • Police-grade accuracy due to the Xtend Fuel Cell Sensor Technology
  • Lengthy battery and easy-to-read LCD screen

What I Liked

  • Police-grade Technology: Because it uses the same technology as police use in their breathalyzers, I can rest assured that it will always provide me with the most accurate results.
  • Easy to Use: The device is very easy to use, allowing you to test your exhaled alcohol level with just one press of a button.
  • Portable: The BACtrack breathalyzer is very compact, ensuring it won’t take up too much space when stored.

What I Didn’t Like

Price: BACtrack S80 is absolutely top-quality. However, it’s a quality that comes at a price, which can dent your pocket. If you always want to be 100% sure you can drive, investing in peace of mind is the right thing to do.

14. iOttie Wireless Car Charger

iOttie Wireless Car Charger

Having to unplug your phone from charging every time you want to use it when driving (for navigation purposes, of course) can be annoying, especially when traveling long distances. If you hate it as much as I do, you’ll love this little wireless charger from iOttie. Designed to combine charging performance with convenience, the iOttie Auto Sense Qi charger is just the device you need to take your car trips to a whole new level.

My Opinion After Using the iOttie Wireless Charger

Once I got my iOttie charger, I immediately got to work and mounted it in my car. Not to lie to you, it took me about 5 seconds to do that. That’s because the charger has a suction mounting base, and all it takes to mount it is to simply put it on your dashboard with a little press.

Once my iOttie charger was mounted, I connected it to my car cigarette lighter input (it already comes with a dual USB charger) and mounted my phone. The cool thing is that the mount automatically opens and closes its cradle arms, ensuring your phone stays still.

With everything ready, I went on a test drive to see if the phone would stay in position safely and how fast it would charge. I have to say I was more than impressed with iOttie.

The base is incredibly sturdy, keeping my phone in one place throughout the drive. The mount is very convenient, too, as I could immediately pick up my phone whenever I liked by pushing either of the buttons beside the cradle arms. As for the charging speed, I compared it to a traditional USB car charger, and the results were brilliant, with the iOttie charger taking much less time to charge my phone.

So yes, I have to say that this iOttie is an excellent choice, and it will serve me for several years to come.

Key Highlights

  • QI-certified technology
  • Comes with backup power
  • Has telescopic arm and adjustable base
  • Offers phone case compatibility

What I Liked

  • Strong Suction: The mounting base offers strong and sturdy suction, ensuring the whole charger doesn’t move too much when driving.
  • Adjustable Base: You can adjust the mounting base to your convenience.
  • Safe Mount: Once your phone sits tight in the charger’s mount, it will stay that way throughout the trip unless you decide to pick it up, which you can conveniently do at any time.
  • Fast Charging: As I found out, iOttie charges phones much faster than traditional dual USB car chargers.

What I Didn’t Like

Lost Grip: While the charger offers strong suction, it tends to lose grip quite often, which forced me to adjust its position after two weeks.

15. Wolfbox12” Mirror Dash Cam

Wolfbox12” Mirror Dash Cam

I admit I’m a bit of a car gadget-head (which you’ve probably already noticed). That said, once I got a chance to test this shiny new mirror dash cam from Wolfbox, I took the chance and did it. Were my expectations met?

My Opinion After Testing Wolfbox12”

Before using it, I had to mount rear and front cameras. It took me shorter than expected, with both cameras ready within a few minutes. Then, I mounted the mirror and connected it to both cameras. Once everything was up and running, I decided to test how it works.

The first thing I noticed was how clear and sharp the view from both cameras is. I could see everything, even the tiniest details. It also works great at night, giving a user extended visibility once it gets darker.

The built-in parking assistance works well too, and the 12” screen ensures you can see everything very clearly, providing you with the best view possible when reverse parking.

And yes, I know that most of the newer cars already have built-in rear cameras. If your car doesn’t have such a feature, though, Wolfbox12” is a fantastic choice.

Key Highlights

  • Night vision
  • 12” screen
  • 1080 resolution from both cameras
  • Type C power supply
  • GPS tracking in real-time

What I Liked

  • Stellar Resolution: Wolfbox12” offers incredibly high resolution, ensuring a driver can see everything as clear as possible.
  • Night Vision: Visibility can be an issue whenever you’re forced to drive at night. The Wolfbox mirror can provide the aid you need through its night vision feature, which, as I found, works brilliantly.
  • Easy Installation: Although it might look complicated at first, installing both cameras and the mirror is actually pretty straightforward, and the manual has all the instructions clear and easy to follow.

What I Didn’t Like

High Price: Although I recommend getting Wolfbox12”, I think its price could’ve been a bit lower.

16. Pure Portable Air Purifier

Pure Portable Air Purifier

Keeping clean air inside your car isn’t an easy task, especially if you often drive with children or pets. Dry air inside a car can also be a real menace for people with allergies (my wife, for example). In such a case, buying a portable air purifier can be a real lifesaver. When searching for one, I came across this little fella from Pure. Let’s see how it performed during my tests.

My Opinion After Using Pure Mini Air Purifier

I don’t really have much to say about using the purifier. I merely picked it up, placed it in my cup holder (where it fits perfectly), and turned it on. Then, I went for a ride, and I have to say I was amazed by the results.

The purifier really helped clean the air in my car. After several minutes of it operating, I could feel the difference, with air immediately becoming much more comfortable to breathe and drive in. More importantly, my wife also felt the difference, as she didn’t even sneeze when riding with the purifier working (she usually sneezes and coughs a lot when in the car).

So yes, in terms of performance, the purifier works brilliantly. As for other features, the battery can hold up to 12 hours (although I’m yet to test it), with the purifier coming with several fan speed modes, which all work great. Replacing the filter is also a blast.

So yes, Pure Mini has become an integral part of our family trips since I first tested it, and I’m sure it will stay with us for years.

Key Highlights

  • 2-stage air purification
  • Traps and destroys 99.7% of particles
  • HEPA-certified filter and active carbon purification
  • 4 fan speed options
  • Comes with a 5-year warranty

What I Liked

  • Compact Design: With its compact design, this Pure Mini air purifier is perfect for car trips. I mean, it fits right inside my cup holder. I don’t think I need to say more.
  • Small Yet Powerful: I have to say I underestimated Pure Mini at first. I thought it wouldn’t purify the air well, but it proved me wrong, working brilliantly in the car and around the house.
  • Convenient: Pure Mini is extremely convenient to use, coming with a handle for easier carrying, a straightforward filter replacement process, and a long-lasting battery.

What I Didn’t Like

Inconsistent Fan Speeds: While it comes with four fan speed options, the low and medium speeds aren’t very useful. If you want to feel the difference, you will need to run it at higher speeds, which drain the battery faster.

17. Noco’s Boost Plus GB40

Noco’s Boost Plus GB40

You never know when your car battery might give up. If you’re at home, that’s usually not a problem. But what if it happens when you’re on a trip? In such a case, having a reliable portable jump starter box at hand can be, quite literally, a lifesaver. And if you’re looking for one, this Noco’s Boost Plus GB40 might be your best choice.

My Opinion After Using Noco’s Boost GB40

Fortunately, I didn’t have to drain my car’s battery to check how Noco’s Boost performs. The opportunity came a day after I received it. My neighbor approached me, telling me that his car won’t start. I said I might just have the solution to his problem.

I took out the Noco’s Jum Start Pack and plugged it onto my neighbor’s car battery. I turned the device on and told my neighbor to start the car. Guess what. It worked. And while I’m yet to test it, it should work 19 times more on the same charge, according to the manufacturer (20 jump starts in total).

However, what’s great about this car gadget is that it’s more than just a car jump starter. It also works as a power bank and LED flashlight. A perfect, all-around tool.

Key Highlights

  • A 1000-amp portable lithium car battery jump starter pack
  • 12-Volt car charger
  • Comes with precision clamps
  • Up to 20 jump starts on the same charge

What I Liked

  • Versatility: While its primary purpose is to jump-start cars, Noco’s Boost Plus GB40 also works brilliantly as a power bank and a powerful LED flashlight.
  • Fast Charging: Once plugged in, the Noco’s jump starter will help start the car immediately, offering fast and reliable charging whenever you need it.
  • Compact: This Noco’s jump starter is very compact, allowing you to store it anywhere inside the car without it taking up too much space.

What I Didn’t Like

Not Suitable for Larger Cars: While it works brilliantly for passenger cars, it might not help van or truck drivers. It’s not powerful enough to do that.

18. Handpresso Auto Capsule

Handpresso Auto Capsule

And last but not least, I give you a car gadget in the full sense of the word. The Handpresso Auto Capsule Coffee Maker. If you, like me, love a cup of coffee on the go, this portable coffee maker will become your favorite car accessory in no time, especially when going on a longer trip. But what is it exactly?

My Opinion After Using Handpresso

I have to say I was a bit reluctant at first regarding brewing a cup of coffee inside the car. But once I used it for the first time, I fell in love with it immediately. The device is very simple to use. You pour water into it, place a Nespresso-compatible coffee capsule inside, plug the device into the cigarette lighter plug, and press the “ON” button. After you hear three beeps, flip the machine and push the espresso button to pour the coffee into your cup. Once your cup is full, press stop.

Et voila! Your cup of freshly brewed joe is ready. Now, I have to say it’s not the best coffee I’ve ever tasted, but it will do just fine when on a long trip, providing you from stopping at a gas station whenever you need your caffeine boost.

Key Highlights

  • Uses Nespresso-compatible coffee capsules
  • 19 bar pressure
  • Pours a perfect 50ml shot of espresso
  • Comes with a 2-year warranty

What I Liked

  • Compact Design: This Handpresso is very compact, which makes storing it during your road trip very convenient.
  • Easy to Use: The whole process of making your fresh espresso shot takes around 2 minutes, and the device itself is effortless to use and clean.
  • Taste: While I’m not a huge fan of capsuled coffee, I must say that Handpresso’s shots came out very tasteful, offering a great alternative to typically terrible coffee served at gas stations.

What I Didn’t Like

  • Price: As much as I love this coffee machine, I think its price is too high for it to really make a difference during a trip. If you’re ready to spend that much on a portable coffee maker, I can assure you it will perform more than well.

Final Word

Here, you have come to the end of my review of car gadgets every car owner should have. I hope you have found something that may ease your driving experience or make it safer.

Each product was purchased and tested by me so that you can do the easy part of deciding what suits your needs and criteria the most.
