My Top 6 Ford Scan Tools – Full Customer Reviews
1. FIXD™ Scan Tool – Editor’s Pick
The FIXD™ Scan Tool is my personal favorite. It just has everything you need from an OBD2 scan tool, offering a boast of scanning options.
Using it, I was able to check engine diagnostics, view live car data, read and clear check engine lights, and keep track of the battery life. Basically, I was able to do everything a standard OBD2 scanner should allow me to do.
What I particularly love about this scan tool is how fast it is. It has a USB connector for quick and easy connection speed and runs at nearly 500kbit per second.
As for the function I’ve grown very fond of, it was the activated toggle switch that allows the user to customize settings without visiting a mechanic.
But don’t trust just my word. The FIXD™ Scan Tool has been rated one of the top Ford Scanners for Lincolns, Mazdas, and Mercury cars – that includes any make and model from 1996 and up.
It is also equipped to help even the most recent 2020 and 2021 cars and trucks. And have I mentioned how easy it is to operate?

For me, the FIXD™ Scan Tool is as close to perfection as you can get. It’s a brilliant OBD2 scan tool for Ford or any other car, providing you with a plethora of features. What I find particularly great about it is how fast it is. It allowed me to run tests and diagnostics with immediate results. It’s quick, reliable, easy to use, and affordable. What more do you need from your Ford OBD2 scanner?
2. OHP Wifi FORScan OBD2 Adapter
My second choice for a Ford scan tool is the OHP WiFi Forscan OBD2 Adapter for Windows, Android, and iOS.
Operating as a scan tool, code reader, and OBD2 scanner, this user-friendly device has saved me many times. I can’t count how many times it helped me with DIY diagnostics.
With the easy-to-use interface, you can connect to your vehicle through Wifi and start reading trouble (DTC) codes, and even reset your oil light.
Its software even allows you to make customizable changes to your vehicles, such as tire size correction, a heated steering wheel, and much more.
Forscan is compatible with an application for an additional purchase that can be accessed straight from your phone.
Personally, I think it’s a bit too much, especially considering that the app itself is a bit buggy. I’ve also experienced several connection issues.

|Android, iOS, Windows
Pros and Cons
- Wifi enabled for easy and hands-free connection
- Excellent customer support
- Compatible with all Ford models from 1996 and up

Overall, OHP WiFi FORScan will work brilliantly as your Ford OBD2 scan tool. I’ve used it many times, and it is yet to fail me, providing me with fast diagnostics whenever I need them. The only real problem is the paid application you require to access the device from your phone. It is quite buggy, and I’ve also experienced several connectivity issues. Other than that, the tool is great.
3. ELM327 FORScan OBD2 Adapter
Another popular product that I find exceptionally useful when working with Ford is the ELM327 FORScan OBC2 Adapter ELMconfig OBDII USB Scanner Diagnostic Scan Tool.
If you’re looking for an affordable Ford OBD2 scanner, this tool is definitely an option to consider.
This scanner is able to access and enable the hidden modules and troubleshoot all the undesired features pre-set in your vehicle with faster functionality.
I could even edit and change settings without a visit to a dealer. Using it, you’ll be able to save money by not having to pay for every single module to be activated or deactivated.
From the technical point of view, the ELM327 comes with the advantage of a USB cable connection and V1.5 version hardware. Thanks to it, it’s more stable than the wireless connection and achieves pro-level check engine light programming.
On the other hand, I do prefer wireless scan tools. They are more convenient to use, and the lack of Bluetooth or WiFi compatibility is a considerable con for me.
|5.87 x 8.43 x 1.65
Pros and Cons
- Reliable USB
- Pro-level check engine light programming
- Supports all OBD2 protocols on most supported vehicles (1996 and beyond)
- Huge money saver by cutting dealership fees
- Easy to use
- Must have disc drive
- USB not bluetooth or wireless
- No 24/7 chat support
The ELM327 FORScan OBD2 Adapter ELMconfig OBDII USB Scanner is a safe bet. The scanner is easy to use and simple to understand. It works and will save you hours and hundreds at the dealership. However, I consider the lack of wireless connectivity a disadvantage, especially if you value convenience. Other than that, I find it another solid choice for your Ford scan tool, especially considering its low price.
4. BlueDriver LSB2 Bluetooth Pro OBDII Scan Tool
BlueDriver is a brand that has a reliable reputation with a strong following of happy customers. I’ve used their products numerous times, and they’re yet to disappoint. And guess what. The LSB2 model is not an exception.
Using this scan tool, I could quickly and easily test all electronic system controls, including ABS, SRS, transmission, and air conditioning. It also comes with automatic vehicle identification, increasing the overall convenience of the tool.
What impressed me the most was the tool’s compatibility range. If you are a DIY mechanic or a professional, this scan tool can help with GM, Ford vehicles, Chrysler, Toyota, and the list goes on.
I did encounter some connectivity issues when using it. The app is also a bit buggy and difficult to navigate at times. Other than that, it’s a solid choice.
|2.2 x 1.9 x 1 in
|iOS and Android
Pros and Cons
- Cost effective
- Free application
- Real-time reads
- Feature Loaded
- Connection Troubles
- Not for every mechanic
- Buggy app
While I haven’t encountered many problems with the tool myself, I’ve read several Amazon reviews stating that the device was often unusable. From my experience, the LSB2 worked really well, allowing me to quickly and conveniently run the necessary vehicle diagnostics. And while there are better options around, I can assure you that it won’t disappoint you as your next Ford OBD2 scan tool.
5. Veepeak OBDCheck BLE OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner
I have used several Veepak OBD2 scanners in my career, and they are always up to the highest standards. The story is no different for the Veepak OBDCheck BLE scan tool.
It will turn your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone or tablet into a sophisticated car scan tool.
In other words, it comes with any feature your future Ford scan tool should have, plus a little extra.
The only downside I could think of is the fact that you may be required to purchase and install a third-party App. Some reviewers also complain about the device not working well on iPhones 6, 7, and 8.
|1.61 x 1.97 x 0.87 in
|Android and iOS
Pros and Cons
- Bluetooth compatibility
- Functions with Apple and Android products
- Works with all brand OBDII / EOBD compliant cars and trucks (1996 and up)
- Easy to plug in and unplug
- No complex settings or tricky connections
- A third-party app is required – not Android supported
- Some connection trouble with iPhone 6, 7 and 8
The Veepeak OBDCheck BLE OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner is a great Bluetooth scanner. It plugs in and syncs effortlessly. You can leave it on overnight without draining the battery (as I found out by leaving it not on purpose). Bluetooth also allows both syncing with the scanner and accessing the WiFi from my iPhone for data downloads and file transfers; something not possible to do with an average WiFi OBD scanner. And sure, you might be forced to purchase a third-party app to run it. Still, I believe it’s an investment worth considering.
6. OBDLink MX+ OBD2 Bluetooth Scanning Tool
The final Ford OBD2 scanner on my list is the OBDLink MX+. Branded as the improved and quicker version of the past OBDLink scanners, the MX+ was designed to be the ultimate OBD2 scanner.
Is it? Yes, but it comes at a price. If you’re willing to pay a bit extra, though, this scan tool is a fantastic choice.
I could read trouble codes with it, and check ABS, tire pressure, and A/C. And that’s only the beginning of its features. It can also grant access to ECUs, and it can do that pretty fast.
Most importantly, this tool works with both GM-LAM and Ford MS-CAN networks, which means it is adaptable to your vehicle’s needs.
|2.01 x 0.91 x 1.81
|iOS, Android, Windows
Pros and Cons
- Reliable Company Reputation
- Faster than the competitors
- Compatible with dozens of applications
- Sleep mode won’t drain the car battery
- Solid connection
- Hacker-proof software
- Additional Application
- You have to pay $9.99 per vehicle
If you are looking for a compatible, dynamic, feature-rich tool, you might have found your purchase. The OBDLink MX+ scan tool is an excellent choice for any Ford car owner, offering advanced features wrapped in a simple and sleek device. Personally, I found it to be very impressive, providing me with a fast and thorough vehicle diagnosis. Does it have any cons? The price is a bit much, especially considering you need a separate app and to pay extra for each car.
